The show was a holistic experience. The visuals were especially surprising. They reflect a very artistic approach that transported me to some very nice spots. Ethereal, I’d say. The images of Bush flipping the bird were a crowd favorite. And Jay Walker taking the mic was the high point of the evening. The overall comment for the night: “underestimated.”

Proud to Add Exo7 to Woolf + Lapin’s Roster

By woolf lapin on April 25th, 2008 in News | No Comments »

image-du-7-copy.jpg

Exo7 has become the success it is because of the unique way that Sébastien and Maya established the brand through the creative communication of strict aesthetic values using sleek, clean and polished design.

Exo7 has staked a well-earned claim on the design map, more specifically that of the web, and has since spawned an explosion of signature projects mixing high-end chic with street-honed branding that continues to grant them rare credibility.

Exo7 is based on the profound belief in the intimacy of the complete sensory experience that they offer. Maya explains this by the recurring leitmotif of pure light in every project they take on. This translates in design that refuses to adhere to a soulless mass experience. Instead, focus is placed on a strongly-felt private experience. Affection over information is the trigger.

This never-waning dedication to building strong ties stems from the top. Exo7 has always advocated a high level of sought-after transparency in everything they do and with everyone they do it with. This is why they are at the core of a growing Montreal-based creative collective poised to work with like-minded creators and web strategists on an international scale.
Exo7 remain staunchly committed to their rejection of fluctuating trends and same-field influence. The company remains committed to investment in creativity, collectivity, and the constant renewal of the vocabulary of the beautiful.

Featured Director: Larry Clark

By woolf lapin on April 8th, 2008 in Things We Like... A Lot | No Comments »

I don’t know if it’s the plain in-yer-face sensibility that gets to us, but Larry Clark is just… what is it… without artifice. It’s the truth. Stripped bare. Down. Dirty. But it’s so damn jubilant and redeeming. The storytelling is always from the same initiatory point of you: kids. What they know. What we don’t. From Tulsa to Ken Park, the controversy continues.

Here, Larry Clark discusses censorship at the Sydney Film Festival. Clark’s brand of reality-testing is not for everyone. Oh well, their loss.

Todd Swift Makes No Small Claim in Globe and Mail Review

By woolf lapin on April 8th, 2008 in News | No Comments »

“This is Canada speaking, loud and clear, quirky and unashamed to be itself. This is surely one of the most audacious and fresh poetic debuts of the new Canadian century.” This is Todd Swift speaking. He is speaking about Jacob McArthur Mooney’s The New Layman’s Almanac.  “A rollicking debut from a young enthusiast with Walt Whitman’s beaming sincerity.” Just so you know, Jacob McArthur Mooney is a Nova Scotian now living in Mississauga, Ontario. He is poetry editor with the always controversial web journal ThievesJargon.com (which any self-respecting writer should already know about) and the founder of The Facebook Review. Back to Todd Swift. Sadly, the Globe and Mail does not offer the full article online. But do write us and we will gladly email it to you. Swift’s latest poetry collection is called Winter Tennis which Mooney quite fraternally but no less adeptly reviews here.
