Model and acting talent, Vanessa Pilon, is working the crowd at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival. You can see her at the «BBQ Show» from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. every night at Place Labatt Bleue. We’ve blogged this film here before. Still worth mentioning the film headlined at Just for Laughs’ “Tout Court Québec” last week. In case you missed it, here’s Monsieur Monsieur Boivin’s Queloune. Can a clown (Dominique Pinon) really adapt to his new life as a Zombie? The ambiance at times is a throwback to Patrick’s previous work in Phylactère Cola.
These adverts are great examples of Korine’s signature style and treatment of subject matter (Kids, Gumo). Surreal, eccentric, unpredictable slices of life are his staple. But the ads are not just that. In their own sappy way they are awfully touching because of the always slightly off kilter, if not altogether spooky, characters. And they are memorable.
