Kaveh Nabatian’s Vapor Nominated for a Genie

“Set in Mexico City over the course of a single day, Vapor is the true story of an older man’s decision to accept his homosexuality. Told without any dialogue, this short film is a cinematic exploration of shame, catharsis, and ultimately, transcendence.”

The 31st Annual Genie Awards will be broadcast live from the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on Thursday, March 10, 2011 on CBC.

Jérémie Saindon to Direct Yelle’s Two New Videos in LA

Jérémie Saindon is off to LA to direct two videos for French Pop singer Yelle’s upcoming album.

The videos in question are for the singles Safari Disco Club and Que veux-tu?

Right now, Yelle ranks no.5 in Hot Artists section and no. 3 in Hot Tracks section.

The shoot for the videos will take place in East LA and at Panavision Studios.

Jean-Paul Lespagnard and Brian Lichtenberg (Katy Perry, M.I.A., Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Pussy Cat Dolls, Beyonce and Paris Hilton) will be styling the videos.

We’ll keep you posted when the videos are released. At any rate they will be posted here around the beginning of March as the album Safari Disco Club is scheduled to be released (Perez Hilton blogged this) in early March 2011.

They are at it again with their choice theme.

Tinywatch have a radically funny way of detailing the ups and downs (certainly the downs) of working retail at an electronics store.

In this case, the humor is bang on.

Patrick Boivin’s White

White is the latest short film Patrick Boivin posted on his Youtube channel.

It is a haunting ode to a wintry apocalypse.

White was previously released in a longer version.

This new, shorter version features our very own Salomé Dubreuil as narrator.

Patrick Boivin’s Ninja Unboxing 2: Nexus S

This new Patrick Boivin video went live this morning at 8.

But starting as early as last night, some users were able to crack some of the hidden goodies that were announcing the launch of this second Ninja Unboxing video.

This time,  for the all new Nexus S.

It was all happening simultaneously on Facebook and Twitter.  The buzz was about “some of our friends are coming back in town, give us a call to get a sneak preview.”

Before long, some savvy twitters had figured out what number to call. The phone number in question briefly appears on the call log of Google’s Nexus S used in the real launch video of the Nexus S, which, incidentally, features the cool Allo, Allo from les Sans Culottes.

The first one to crack it said: “The ‘friends’ were the best part of the N1 release.”

TIFF’s TOP TEN: Kaveh Nabatian’s Vapor

TIFF announces its top 10 short Canadian films of 2010.

Kaveh Nabatian’s arresting Vapor made the top ten.

Here’s what the jury said about his film: “With spare, powerful images and an assured structure, Vapor tells its story like a dance piece. No image is wasted, no moment overplayed. Vapor stays with you long after you’ve left the theatre.”

TIFF flew the filmmakers to Toronto for last night’s event.

And Kaveh says it was pretty cool to share the stage with Guy Maddin.

Congrats to all Canadian filmmakers.

And special props to Halima Ouardiri who also made the top ten for her beautiful Mokhtar.

Incidentally, the Iron Baby clip featured in this reel is part of Youtube’s second annual New Year Countdown of the year’s most memorable videos.

The program runs through December, revealing a new video every day on a special New Year landing page.

The winner’s to be decided December 31st.

This is cool.

Woolf + Lapin Welcomes Tinywatch Productions

Tiny Watch Productions (of IPhone 4 vs HTC evo fame) is an up & coming writing and production team based in Kansas City, Missouri. They create animated and live action content for the web, television, movies and books on tape using a variety of tools and techniques found on the Internet.

Or just plain not.

Tiny Watch was formed in 2009 and to date has been featured on ABC, NBC, and FOX, in Bloomberg BusinessWeek magazine and online in at TechCrunch, Gizmodo and countless other websites.

Tiny Watch’s YouTube channel has accumulated over 10 million hits to date and has shown short films at numerous film festivals, including New York City’s Friar’s Club Annual Comedy Film Fest in 2010.

Today Tiny Watch continues to develop web shorts as well as upcoming, larger projects.

We are very happy to welcome them. And certainly anxious to see what they’ll come up with next!
