“Last month, I directed the official music video for @jamesgunn’s The Suicide Squad — the sickening track “RAIN” by @Grandson & @Jessie Reyez,” says Director John Poliquin. The concept was to integrate the artists seamlessly in the world of the movie and build out a parallel narrative featuring them as ass-kicking antiheroes. With only a single day to shoot 8+ scenes, I knew it was suicide. There were fight sequences, dance sequences, rain effects, stunts and visuals effects that seemed impossible given the time and budget constraints. To top it off, we lost our production designer and art department the Friday before our Monday shoot. We were dead in the water. Until production designer @kendrabell swooped in and saved our butts. With Kendra and her team’s superhuman hustle, they dressed the nightclub and prepped the practical effects over the weekend. The shoot day came, and with our fearless cast and crew, we went to battle. And everyone delivered. We created something full of blood, sweat and tears. Sometimes when something looks impossible, go out there and kick its ass anyway.”
“Big thank you to everyone involved with this project! Special shout out to cinematographer Bridger Nielson for giving us his eye on this project. Sorry I didn’t let you finesse much but we had to keep moving. Post-production had its own brand of insanity, but Max Colt and his VFX wizards turned it out for us.”
