Woolf + Lapin is proud to be associated with what promises to be quite a show at Usine C, starting this week. Naomi Stikeman has been hard at work on bringing two distinct and very strong art forms under one sole guise: film doubled by live choreographed dance. The link between the two is abstract and imaginative. The gaze of the viewer is free to establish the links in between.
Collaborators are many and impressive: Crystal Pite, Arcade Fire, Alexander MacSween, Matthew Banks, Frédérike Bédard, Janine Sutto and Robert Lepage. And of course Richard Hansen the creator behind the eight wigs she will be using for the show. “Each wig,” says Naomi, “is emblematic of each of the eight scenes that make up the choreography. The fit, shape and length influenced the posture and movement of the body. Crystal Pite loved the idea of working with these ideas.”
“The symbol of Saturn has to do with death, mourning, winter, but it is also the harbinger of a new spring. That’s what’s really behind the title. A reminder of the cycles of life.”
