Montreal-based Paloma Dawkins is a cartoonist and self-taught animator turned virtual-reality and video-game artist. Known for her fantastical landscapes inhabited by strange and lovable characters, Dawkins strives to create games that are surreal and beautiful.

Songs of the Lost is a magic-realist game odyssey through a surreal and absurd digital landscape. You’ll cross boundaries and traverse borders, roam hidden highways and meet enigmatic strangers, explore secret forests and enter the void on your journey to Apocabliss, the last safe haven…

A psychedelic audiovisual experience, Songs of the Lost has been created for MIF19 by award-winning Canadian games designer Paloma Dawkins and a team of international collaborators – with a pulsing, shape-shifting soundtrack by electronic composer-producer Jlin, who’ll be performing live at MIF19’s Queens of the Electronic Underground.

Part invitation, part dare, an impish game mistress welcomes you into a delightfully disorienting pleasure dome inspired by geometry and nature—and wired with infectious dance beats. What happens next feels like swimming through poetic rainbow juice.

An absurdist mind-and-body romp through the highest clouds to the ocean deep, Museum of Symmetry is the explosive feel-good alter-universe of cartoonist and animator Paloma Dawkins, produced by the National Film Board of Canada and brought to life by pioneer VR studio Casa Rara. A room-scale VR metaphor for life, it takes the player through landscapes of earth, fire, wind and water, where vivacious 2D characters live in a 3D playground. Museum of Symmetry disrupts conventional game storytelling to create an unexpected pleasure-positive trip in VR as never experienced before.

A surreal horror cartoon video game by Paloma “Palgal” Dawkins about communicating with hands. Featuring a scene designed by Keith Jones. In the Mac version the final level features Aya Avalon’s poem “The Garden”. In the Windows version the final scene is Aphrodite Affirmations by Andrea Young

“Of the innumerable walk-a-explore-o-awe games I’ve played, few have entranced me as much as Gardenarium” – Rock Paper Shotgun
