This is Woolf +Lapin’s Tean Schultz, during his stint as staff writer for the Muppets Gala.
The Muppets performed the closing act during the Thursday Just for Laughs gala.
The comedy fest, which celebrated its 30th anniversary, wrapped Saturday.
And after thirty years it is still pegged as the finest of its kind in the world.
Here’s the Montreal Gazette reviewing the Muppets Gala: “Even some lovers of those warm and fuzzy Muppets had their doubts the characters would work in a gala. But they exceeded all expectations. Even those of us as cynical as Statler and Waldorf were blown away. The two Muppets galas were magical, both for allowing Kermie (shorter in real life), his babe Miss Piggy, the Swedish Chef (who had to be defibrillated numerous times after knocking back poutine)…”
“In a three-week span, Just for Laughs presented 250 shows in English and French and featured 4,000 performers — both of which are records.” Not bad for a 30th anniversary!
