Patrick Boivin Directs Virtual Reality Sci-Fi Thriller

UNLTD VR is pleased to announce the start of shooting in Prague, Czech Republic of Trinity, a Virtual Reality thriller directed by Patrick Boivin (Iron Baby, Iggy Pop, LG, Lego, Google, Ford, Nike, Samsung, Marvel and DisneyPixar), from a screenplay by Randall Lobb, based on a story by John Hamilton. Once shooting has been completed in Prague, cast and crew will return to Montreal for the final stage of principal photography in early 2017.

Trinity is a live-action, interactive thriller set in Virtual Reality, a cinematic first in narrative story telling. Set 2000 years from now, in a future where humans have long been extinct, the last surviving androids fight a final war for freedom against an all powerful Singularity, their God…

Trinity is produced by UNLTD partners John Hamilton (eOne Entertainment, Seville Pictures) and Robert Boulos (The Lion King 3D, Life of Pi), with line-producer Viktor Mara of Bistro Films handling the Czech portion of the shoot. UNLTD partner Sébastien Gros returns as director of photography/stereography/VR.

UNLTD will also be using its pioneering Nucleus 3D and Sputnik VR camera technology for the shoot, developed specifically by UNLTD to meet the unique needs of shooting for Virtual Reality.

Production and development partners on Trinity include The Canada Media Fund, Rex Media Capital, Frima Studio, Dpt., Unity and D-Box Technologies.

Trinity is set for release summer 2017.

Woolf+Lapin At Byron Bay Film Festival

Woolf+Lapin is in Australia for the celebrations of the tenth edition of the Byron Bay Film Festival.

The selection of films includes notables: Zach’s Ceremony, Down Under, Boys in the Trees and The Bentley Effect.

That’s to say nothing of the VR panels, where ideas on virtual reality were in no short supply. Leaving absolutely no doubt that shaping the vision of our future is something to be done collectively.

Thanks to Festival Director J’aimee Skippon-Volke for a transformative and inspiring event.

And of course, this year marks both the 20th anniversary of Fantasia and Patrick Boivin’s Phylactère Cola, which will also be celebrated at the festival.

John Poliquin is MMVA 2016 Winner For Grand Theft’s QUIT THIS CITY

Congratulations to director John Poliquin for winning best Electronic Dance Music video for Grand Theft’s (feat. Lowell) QUIT THIS CITY at the 2016 Much Music Video Awards.

John shot this across 2 nights in Barcelona with a primarily Spanish cast and crew. “The scenes,” says John, “are a combination of conventional filmmaking and on-the-wall documentary observations. Many of the scenes were filmed in the rowdy nightlife district where the camera had to be concealed for safety. The scenes where the girls are working the corner were photographed on a long lens from across the street.”

The concealed documentary-style shoot led to the actresses being approached by both police and men looking to hire sex workers. Some of the men who approached the actresses were disrespectful and harassing.

“This unfortunately mirrored the malicious spirit of the final man in the film,” says John.

Props also to Director X for his video of the year nod for Drake’s HOTLINE BLING!

Director Alain Desrochers Nitro Rush will get its world premiere at the 19th edition of the festival in the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week competition section.

Jackie Chan Action Movie Week is a grand showcase of stuntmen’s extraordinary performances and the innovation of special effects and technology in action filmmaking. It aims to cultivate new Chinese action film stars and to promote Chinese action movies worldwide.

Jackie Chan Action Movie Week established a professional election committee made up of members of action film associations, action film directors and media representatives to select the films in the competition section. The awards from the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week are called “man of steel,” which will be awarded through audience voting at the designated cinemas, and range from Best Stunt, to Best Fight to Best Actor.

Maker Studios Gather Talent in NYC

Last week, during the Digital Content New Fronts 2016, Maker Studios gathered, among others, PewDiePie, Romeo Lacoste and Patrick Boivin.

This was an intimate showcase where Maker talent mingled with buyers as the network announced new concepts.

“We have worked hard to perfect the process of how we work with clients, to bring them tangible results with a focus on media and content creation,” said head of sales Jason Krebs. “While anyone can create individual components of what we offer, Maker Studios’ uniquely packaged programs truly set us apart in the ecosystem.”

“In a media landscape where video has become commoditized, now, more than ever, it’s important to focus on differentiated strengths,” added Gabriel Lewis, head of development & studios. ”

Woolf + Lapin’s very own Patrick Boivin has been part of this process and we can’t wait to launch what he’s come up with!
